WARRIORS AGAINST DARKNESS

Some will say my title is almost the same to one of the novel book of Paulo Coelho. Honestly my title was inspired by that book even I haven’t read it, something in its title makes me decide to choice this title and I don’t know what is that something. Maybe some you have an idea what my speech is all about, yes! Exactly, that is the where my speech will flow. How can be warriors? Are all warriors brave? Who are the true warriors? And lot of questions. I know all of you are familiar with movie 300. Am I right? So ladies and gentlemen and beloved Ms. Cadis, a pleasant afternoon, let me start my speech with a one of the verse in the bible. JUDGES 7:1-7

The Defeat of Midian. Then Jerubbaal (that is, Gideon) and all the troops that were with him rose early and encamped beside the spring of Harod. The camp of Midian was north of them, below the hill of Moreh, in the valley. The Lord said to Gideon, “The troops with you are too many for me to give the Midianites into their hand…… “My own hand has delivered me.’ Now therefore proclaim this in the hearing of the troops, “whoever is fearful and trembling, let him return home.” Thus Gideon sifted them out; twenty-two thousand returned, then ten thousand remained, then the Lord said to Gideon, “the troops are still too many; take them down to the water and I will sift them out for you there……So he brought the troops down to the water, and the Lord said to Gideon, “All those who lap the water with their tongues…you shall put to one side. All those who kneel down to drink, putting their hands to their mouths, you shall put to the other side” the number of those that lapped was three hundred…. Then the Lord said to Gideon, “With the three hundred that lapped I will deliver you, and give Midian to your power. Let all others go to their homes.”

Yes, the movie 300 is based in this verse. The warrior against darkness that I am referring is you, you, me; all of us are warriors against darkness, which is sins and temptation. As warrior you we need to be brave enough to fight against darkness. If we feel weak and alone it should not be a hindrance to be warriors of God. If we are one the troops of Gideon that was sent back by God to home it is not because we are useless, it just mean that we are not yet ready to fight in battle. In the same way, God can make mighty warriors out of us no matter how weak or insignificant we are. All we need to do is say yes and allow him to transform our wimps’ heart into warrior’s hearts. Once we choose to follow Christ, right away it is choosing to carry our cross. Though you are alone, you need to be brave, nor “fearful and trembling” and prepared. But being warriors against darkness your problems will increase. As the midterm exam is near, initially maybe some of us had to cheat to pass our classes; however, once you choose light, you will have to stop the lie of cheating during exams or having other people do you assignments. With the stock knowledge you have unaided by your cheating, your grades will definitely go down. Once you start studying harder however, knowing you will not cheat anymore; your grades will soon recover. But this time, your grade will be yours. ARE YOU BRAVE ENOUGH TO STAND FOR THE LORD?

Some of you think that becoming warriors is having no freedom. Now I tell you, “The warrior knows that he is free to chose his desires, and he makes these decisions with courage, detachment, and-sometimes-with just a touch of madness.” A quote from the book of Paulo Coelho, “The Warriors of the Light”. The true battle that we are fighting with is not about our freedom; it is fighting for darkness in our life, for the true battle is our life. So before I ended my speech, I want to end this speech in a prayer. So may request everybody to stand up and let us put our self in the presence of God.
(Sign of the Cross). Dear Lord, as your future warrior was lifting up to your self, family, health, future and our study. As your warrior give us strength and brave to keep in fighting for your love and to our life if we have something facing problems. Show us the way to the right path toward your army. Makes us understand your plan for us. As we take our midterm exam this week, give us wisdom, memory and courage to answer the examination honestly. We asked this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
